The SmartBlockPlus Forming Systems
SmartBlockPlus is a lightweight and insulated stay-in-place concrete form, made from
expanded polystyrene (or foamed polystyrene), which is a common plastic. Expanded
polystyrene is widely used in the building industry as insulating material and is
noted for its safe properties for installers and consumers and the durability of
its high insulating quality.
There are two styles of SmartBlockPlus forms, the Standard Form or SF-10 and the Variable
Form or 12VWF. Both products have unique characteristics. This allows one to choose
those features that best fit the desired performance. Both forms have rows of interlocking
teeth at the top and bottom to facilitate easy assembly. The form units remain after
placing of reinforcing steel and concrete and must be protected by approved interior
and exterior finish materials.
SmartBlockPlus 12VWF (for 12 inches high variable width form) is a flat block that arrives
disassembled for easy shipping and storage. . This form is very similar to a conventional
form with snap ties. The form creates a flat, solid wall of concrete with nominal
widths. The face shells have slots along one side. Eight rigid plastic ties slide
into the slots of two face shells to create the assembled block. The face shells
measure 12 inches high by 40 inches long. They are 2.125 inches tick and made from
expanded polystyrene. Their upper and lower edges have teeth for interconnecting
adjacent blocks. The ties come in various lengths to create thickness of 3.75, 5,75,
7.75, 9.75, 11.75 and larger custom-made thickness. EPS end pieces are also available
to close off the end of the block so it can be used as a corner
SmartBlock
SF10 (for 10 inches high standard form) is a one piece, all foam, and screen grid
block. It measure 10 inches high by 40 inches long and comes in one thickness to
create a concrete thickness of 6.5 inches. This form creates a structural grid of
solid reinforced concrete columns and beams 10” on center horizontally and vertically.
The face shells have a minimum thickness of 1.75 inches. Their upper and lower edges
have teeth for interconnecting adjacent blocks. EPS end pieces are also available
to close off the end of the block so it can be used as a corner. The grid pattern
permits desired flexibility in high seismic areas. It also facilitates use of more
rebar and less concrete to equate the structural strength of a typical 8” solid
concrete wall.
SmartBlockPlus replaces conventional concrete formwork or masonry block in residential
and light commercial applications. SmartBlockPlus forms are left in place after concrete
is poured and provide superior insulation relative to conventional wood, concrete
and masonry walls.
